6.1

Community Wellbeing Network Report

 

This report provided an update and overview of the activities and actions undertaken by the current Wellbeing Network Committees.

This matter relates to Community Connections and Better Wellbeing.

Activate the key priorities within the Community Wellbeing Strategy.

 

 

 

Mayor Bernie provided an update on the older persons network, highlighting the success of the "Age on the Go" event in October.

Cr Grimstone reported on the progress of the Te Tomokanga project, a community-led initiative to support students experiencing trauma, with a steering group meeting scheduled for November 12th.

Lael Marshall provided an update on the access and inclusion network, mentioning the launch of ADAPT, in conjunction with Sport Manawatū on October 25th, and the International Day of Persons with Disabilities planned for December 3rd.

Julia Atkins updated on the youth services network, mentioning the Future Pathways career expo and the establishment of the Youth Voice Council.

6.2

Community Wellbeing Dashboard Report

 

This report provided the Committee with a draft visual dashboard presenting data, analysis and assist in the tracking of the Community Wellbeing Strategy priority areas.

This matter relates to Community Connections and Better Wellbeing.

Activate the key priorities within the Community Wellbeing Strategy.

 

 

 

Mayor Wanden introduced the new dashboard, emphasising its importance for understanding community trends.

Mark Hammond and Julia Atkins explain the dashboard's purpose, linking it to the community wellbeing strategy and noting that data will change quarterly.

Emma Gowan provided detailed data on various metrics, including emergency housing, housing register, education, immunisation rates, population growth, crime statistics, and health services.

There was discussion on the need for more data, including:

·         ECE enrolments and hospital admissions, with suggestions for future updates.

·         Child oral health data

·         Oral ED admissions

·         Health Shuttle usage reasons

 

Health NZ MidCentral offered to look at what additional data could be provided

 

Sport Manawatū offered to provide data for future dashboards

6.3

Community Wellbeing Strategy Monitoring Report

 

This highlighted progress made against the Community Wellbeing Strategy (the Strategy) and Action Plan.  The report also presented an opportunity for the Committee to discuss and raise any concerns or need to reprioritise the focus of the work programme of the Committee.

This matter relates to Community Connections and Better Wellbeing.

Activate the key priorities within the Community Wellbeing Strategy.

 

 

 

Mark Hammond introduced the monitoring report, which will hold the Coluncil and committee accountable for delivering on the community wellbeing strategy.

The report included a summary of progress and a table of action items, with some completed and others underway.

Mayor Wanden emphasised the importance of focusing on achieving outcomes and invites feedback on any gaps or areas for improvement.

There was discussion on the need to prioritise actions and the impact of next year’s local government election on the timeline for achieving goals.

6.4

Emergency Management - Response Form Update

 

This report provided an update to information requested at our last hui in order to prepare ourselves as a community to respond to emergencies in the district.

This matter relates to Community Preparedness

Emergency management planning and preparation.

 

 

 

Julia Atkins provided an update on the emergency response form, which aims to understand each organisation's role and contact information in an emergency.

Only two responses have been received so far, and the form will be sent out again for more feedback.

The was emphasis that this contributes to the importance of clear communication lines in emergency situations.

5.1

Hato Hone St John

 

Josh Holman, Group Operations Manager, presented on the operations of St John in the Horowhenua area. He explained the structure of St John, including the communication centre, clinical services, youth programs, and ambulance services.

There was detailed information on the staffing and resources in the Horowhenua area, including paramedics, emergency medical technicians, and extended care paramedics.

There was discussion on the challenges faced, such as long transit times, sickness, delayed hospital admissions, and training pipelines.

St John's Role and Community Support.

Josh Holman highlighted the role of St John in providing emergency medical services and the importance of community support through the supporter scheme.

Cr Grimstone provided additional context on the funding gap for St John's operations and the importance of community contributions.

There was discussion on the impact of donations, such as the new ambulance donated by Francis Ellen, and the broader benefits to the community.

Mayor Wanden thanked Josh and acknowledges the vital work of St John and the challenges they face in meeting the high demand for their services.
